What is this about?
The two interactive annotated videos presented in this module have been recorded during two PREPARED dialogue events organized by the project in collaboration with SAGE. The two events address respectively the following themes:

- Bringing ethics into policy making about research preparedness
Ethics and integrity challenges for research during global crises
How can we make sure we're not cutting corners on important safety and ethical standards while we rush through scientific research? During the COVID-19 pandemic, fast scientific work helped us understand the virus, create treatments and vaccines, and figure out how to stay safe. But there were some big questions about protecting the people involved in the research. Should scientists use information and samples from patients who were too sick to agree to it? Should people in studies get a fake treatment if there's already a good one available? Is it okay to intentionally expose healthy volunteers to the virus for research purposes? Bringing ethics into policy making about research preparedness
In times of crisis, policy-makers urgently need advice from researchers. Can such advice take ethical values into consideration? PREPARED developed an ethics brief format around fairness, respect, care and honesty and launched a first brief with NATURE coverage in April 2023. The PREPARED team met at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris in early June. Watch this annotated video and learn more about bringing ethics into policy making. Click below to watch the annotated video.
