How do European funded projects promote research integrity policy and practice in the European Research Area
IANUS, POIESIS, VERITY, RE4GREEN, PREPARED, CHANGER and The Embassy of Good Science.
As Europe navigates rapid technological advancements and political and societal change, the continent is faced with the challenge of improving global competitiveness in research and innovation, whilst simultaneously upholding European values of openness, equity, and sustainability. Central to meeting this challenge is the embedding of research integrity and research ethics in European, national, and institutional research policies and practices.
This satellite event will outline how the European Commission’s vision for the responsible conduct of research in the European Research Area (ERA) is translated into the science for policy processes and funding streams for collaborative European projects, with an introduction to the priorities for the 2026-27 work programme.
This will be followed by a series of sessions from current European initiatives which all aim to strengthen research integrity and research ethics within the European Research Area.
Representatives from the Embassy of Good Science platform and six key European projects (IANUS, POIESIS, VERITY, RE4GREEN, PREPARED and CHANGER), the Natural Resources Institute Finland (Luke) and the Finnish project LYTE will lead sessions on four cross-cutting research integrity challenges:
1. Building Supportive Frameworks for Fostering Trust in Science;
2. Fostering open, equitable and inclusive research and innovation ecosystem;
3. Embedding sustainability principles in research to support the green transition;
4. Developing research system resilience for times of disruption and change.
These interactive, mixed format sessions will give the audience the opportunity to familiarize themselves and exchange knowledge about the complexities of challenges Europe faces, as well as the insights, policy recommendations and associated tools and training materials developed by the European projects.
The event will end with a presentation of the Embassy of Good Science platform and a demonstration of how the platform fosters wider engagement with projects’ outputs, creates connections between projects and existing resources, and encourages the long-term use and impact of project results.
Opening
Roberta Monachello from the Research Executive Agency of the European Commission (EC) will kick off the event from the policy and funder perspective. Roberta will introduce the key priorities of the EC for strengthening research integrity priorities, policies and practice and describe how these are reflected in current and future EC funding.
Session 1: Building Supportive Frameworks for Fostering Trust in Science [9:15 - 10:45]
This session is led by three sister projects IANUS, POIESIS and VERITY. This session will explore the challenges and complexities shaping trust in science, drawing on evidence from the EU-funded research projects IANUS, POIESIS, and VERITY. We will present actionable policy recommendations for key stakeholders in the research ecosystem along with practical approaches to foster research integrity, transparency, inclusivity, and accountability in research. Through interactive discussion, participants will examine how these strategies and policies can be implemented in practice to strengthen the ecosystem of trust in science across diverse societal contexts.

Session 2: Fostering open, equitable and inclusive research and innovation ecosystem [11:00-12:30]
This session is led by the PREPARED project, with contributions from IANUS. The session will focus on equitable participation in the production of knowledge, in particular on the inter-related findings of two EU projects: IANUS and PREPARED. We will start with a presentation from IANUS on ‘epistemic inclusion’, exploring who is heard in research. Subsequently, the PREPARED project will showcase two policy briefs related to who is allowed to participate in global research and who can work safely in research, issues which are the foci of two policy briefs on visas and harassment of scientists respectively. Audience members will be invited to share experiences and ideas to increase research fairness at the institutional level.

Session 3: Embedding sustainability principles in research to support the green transition [13:30-15:00]
This session is led by the RE4GREEN project, with contributions from LUKE and LYTE. This session explores how sustainability and environmental ethics can be integrated into research ethics and integrity frameworks. Representatives from Natural Resources Institute Finland (Luke) and the Finnish project LYTE, along with the EU-funded project RE4GREEN, will share their work and insights on the topic. After brief presentations of each project’s approaches and findings, the discussion will address key questions, such as: “How can central concepts like sustainability or environmental justice be meaningfully operationalized in research?” or “Which institutions should take responsibility for embedding environmental ethics into research integrity frameworks?”. The session will move from the broader philosophical debates to concrete applications, concluding with a moderated discussion that invites active participation from the audience.
Session 4: Developing research system resilience for times of disruption and change [15:00-16:30]
This session is led by CHANGER, with contributions from RE4GREEN and PREPARED. This session explores how research infrastructures can become more resilient to changes in the research environment. Insights from the EU-funded projects RE4GREEN, PREPARED and CHANGER will be presented. Practical approaches and policy recommendations to foster reflexivity and responsibility in research will be briefly introduced by each project, followed by a discussion, in which audience members will be invited to share experiences and good practices from their institutional or national context.

Embassy of Good Science showcase [16:45-17:45]
Ana Marusic from The Embassy of Good Science will introduce the platform and its relevance and potential for research ethics and integrity practice. Natalie Evans will then demonstrate how projects can use the platform for long-term sustainability and impact of project results.
