|Is About=The Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) Climate Action Strategy 2024–2027 sets out how SFI will integrate climate action and environmental sustainability into its funding, research activities, partnerships and operations. Its overall aim is to support Ireland’s transition towards a low-carbon, climate-resilient and sustainable society. The strategy is organised around three pillars. The first focuses on funding excellent research that addresses climate change, sustainability and biodiversity, while developing the skills and talent needed for the future. The second focuses on moving research knowledge and expertise into society, government and industry so that decisions can be informed by evidence. The third focuses on conducting research itself more sustainably, including reducing the environmental impact of laboratories and research activities. The strategy also promotes collaboration, open research, knowledge sharing, sustainable practices and partnerships between academia, government, industry and society.

SFI recognises that both aspects need attention: research should contribute to climate solutions while also being conducted in more sustainable ways.
