Declaration of Geneva
What is this about?
A medical code of ethics that declares the humanitarian character of physicians' profession and medicine. Although it was first established in 1948, a new version of the Declaration of Geneva was adopted by the World Medical Association (WMA) General Assembly on October 14, 2017, in Chicago.
Why is this important?
It is an adaptation of the Hippocratic Oath to modern medicine. The declaration is the core of medical ethics and, in many countries, it is even part of the medical profession code. The Biomedical Alliance in Europe and the European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology endorse the Declaration of Geneva in their codes of conduct and ethics, respectively.
