ROSiE General Guidelines on Responsible Open Science

Related Initiative

What is this about?

These general guidelines on responsible open science contain principles relevant to researchers and other stakeholders that utilize an open science approach. The principles are meant to ensure that open science practices are ethical and equitable. These general guidelines also act as the foundation for the field-specific guidelines on responsible open science.

The guidelines were drafted by the Responsible Open Science in Europe project, a Horizon 2020 project tasked to produce a responsible open science complement to the European Code of Conduct for Research Integrity.

Why is this important?

These guidelines are important as open science is now considered as standard in the practice of science in the research and innovation programs of the European Commission. To quote the EC, " Open science is a policy priority for the European Commission and the standard method of working under its research and innovation funding programmes as it improves the quality, efficiency and responsiveness of research."
