Ten journals denied 2020 Impact Factors because of excessive self-citation or “citation stacking”
What is this about?
Clarivate has issued expression of concern to 11 journals after noticing some odd patterns in their contribution to JIF (journal impact factor) values. It also suppressed a further 10 for excessive self-citation. The journals suppressed did not receive an impact factor for 2020.
Why is this important?
The case, brought by Retraction Watch, is important as it signifies that all stages of research are important, and editors and publishers are nonetheless part of it.
