What is this about?

This module presents guidelines developed by the European Commission, UKRIO and the ENAI network which focus on the responsible use of AI. As AI becomes increasingly integrated into our lives and work, it is important to ensure that its development and use is both ethical and responsible. This module is designed to help educators educate individuals and organizations about the principles and practices of responsible AI.

Why is this important?

With this module we want to help trainers to convey the importance of fairness, transparency and ethical considerations in AI systems, fostering a deeper understanding and commitment to responsible AI among their participants.
1
Important factors to consider

There are different ways of using AI, not only to generate text, but also to work with your own material (proofreading, changing style, transcription). Researchers should be transparent about how they have used AI tools, as they would be about any other tools and methods. The most important requirement for any researcher is to CHECK the material generated by AI, for example in a systematic review. Fairness, transparency and ethical considerations are all important factors in AI systems for trainers to consider when teaching, fostering a deeper understanding and commitment to responsible AI among their participants. Although training materials focusing on AI are still in development, this module gives trainers insight on possible material to be used.

2
Available resources

Most of the resources available are made by recommendations and guidelines on the use of responsible AI. Published by the European Commission, the Living Guidelines on the Responsible Use of Generative AI in Research provides recommendations for researchers, research institutions and funding organizations. ENAI developed a practical guide for students (see also here) on the use of generative AI. UKRIO provides a full list of resources on the use of AI in research.
