Global Code of Conduct for Research in Resource-Poor Settings
What is this about?
This code of conduct tries to promote ethical research in lower-income countries by preventing so-called ‘ethics dumping’, which entails the practice of doing unethical research in lower-income countries.
Why is this important?
Research should be done ethically, regardless of the setting it takes place in. Research subjects in lower-income countries may be more prone to exploitation due to their social-economic situation. Initiatives such as this code of conduct may help to achieve the same ethical standards in research in both higher and lower-income countries.
