UN International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights
What is this about?
Based on the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the UN International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights is a treaty that encourages its parties to respect and promote civil and political rights of individuals, such as freedom of speech, assembly and religion and the right to life, self-determination. The treaty has 53 articles divided into 6 parts.
Why is this important?
The UN International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights is a key international human rights treaty that provides protection to the political and civil rights of individuals in UN member states. At the moment 173 parties ratified the treaty, which is endorsed by the European Society for Opinion and Marketing Research.
