The European Code of Conduct for Research Integrity - 2023 Edition (ALLEA Code)

What is this about?

The European Code of Conduct for Research Integrity serves the European research community as a framework for self-regulation across all scientific and scholarly disciplines and for all research settings. The Code was published originally in English on 24 March 2017. The 2023 edition incorporates a number of significant changes relating to diversity, whistleblowers, and the ethical handling of research data. Other changes relate to the planning and crediting of different research projects., and to the responsible dissemination of research results.

Why is this important?

The European Code positions itself as the basis for ensuring research integrity, underpinning local, national and discipline specific codes of conduct. The 2023 edition of the code emphasises the objectivity and impartiality of science as key to maintaining research integrity and trust in scientific institutions, but at the same time emphasises the importance of diversity of viewpoints in research as key to achieving these standards.
