VIRT2UE Train the Trainer program
The VIRT2UE Train the Trainer program addresses researchers and educators from different disciplines who want to become trainers in Research Integrity. By taking this blended learning training, participants have the chance to 1) learn about the main Research Integrity issues, 2) reflect on them within the context of the European Code of Conduct for Research Integrity (ECoC) and 3) develop skills to foster understanding and internalization of the principles and practices of good science as promoted by the ECoC. The training takes a virtue-based approach and supports participants in reflecting on their understanding of, and own positions towards Research Integrity. In line with this, a strong focus is put on fostering reflecting on personal cases and experiences with the intention of building strong connections between theory and practice.
In detail
Blended learning
The VIRT²UE train-the-trainer program combines online and face-to-face components. Online materials are designed for individual learning and reflection and provide an introduction to the main research issues and philosophical concepts in research integrity. The face-to-face training develops participants’ teaching skills and provides opportunities for interactive, reflective and case-based group activities. The online and face-to-face courses are complementary. Online preparation is required for the face-to-face exercises, and the online exercises need to be supported by experiences provided in the face-to-face meetings.
- Learning goals
- Develop a predisposition to cultivate virtues, and know how to act upon those virtues in concrete situations and complex moral dilemmas.
- Relate the principles outlined in the ECoC to a concrete ERI case.
- Develop knowledge and skills to apply exercises that help researchers to cultivate scientific virtues while reflecting on concrete cases and dilemmas.
- Develop didactical competences necessary to organize and implement a VIRT2UE training.
- Adaptability
The training materials represent a toolbox from which trainers can build their own courses tailored to the needs of their trainees. Trainers are encouraged to adapt materials in order to make them more suitable for the context in which they will offer their training. This supports contextualised teaching across different countries and disciplines and promotes the internalisation of the practices and principles of the ECoC.
- Certificate
Program participants receive a certificate when they have completed the online and face-to-face courses and trained ten further researchers. The training of ten further researchers can be completed during or after the duration of the program.
This training has been developed by the VIRT2UE project, which has received funding form the European Union’s H2020 research programme under grant agreement N 741782.
