International Committee of Medical Journal Editors Publication Recommendations

What is this about?

The ICMJE recommendations on the conduct, report, editing and publication of scholarly work in journals are the leading recommendations in the field of medical sciences on authorship and contributor criteria. The recommendations cover various sections: authorship criteria, the responsibilities of peer reviewers, publication issues (such as retractions), predatory journals, and how to prepare manuscripts ready to be submitted, amongst various other relevant sections.

Why is this important?

Credit should be given where credit is due, meaning all those contributing to a scientific work should be named in a publication, and those who did not substantially contribute should not be credited. In addition, scientific works should represent findings in a fair and transparent manner.
