What is this about?

This module  presents a collection of training materials developed by EU funded initiatives to introduce learners to the main issues and topics related to research ethics and integrity. The following training material can be used within and/or outside the academic environment. The materials presented have been developed by EU-funded initiatives namely: PRINTEGER, VIRT2UE and Path2Integrity.

For each set of materials developed by each project the target audience is indicated.

Practical Tips

We recommend that trainers and teachers define the needs and skill level of the group to be trained before selecting the material to be used. This is due to the fact that the career stage often does not reflect the level of skills and competences in terms of research ethics and integrity.

PRINTEGER

TARGET audience: bachelors and masters students, doctoral students and early career researchers

The Upright training developed by the PRINTEGER projects provides the opportunity to have an overview of common research integrity issues in the academia. The training programme has been developed with the aim of raising awareness among “newcomers” to RI and RE. Besides providing knowledge and information on the topic, the training programme contributes to the development of the moral character of researchers by encouraging reflection on specific dilemmas and cases.

With its introductory module, it aims to give students a first look at why research integrity matters. This module is based on the film On Being A Scientist, produced by the Leiden University. This provides a rough overview of the subject and can be found here: On Being A Scientist. The film On Being A Scientist can be split up into nine episodes. Each episode focuses on a specific topic. VIRT2UE

TARGET audience: bachelor and master students, doctoral students and early career researchers The e-learning modules produced by the VIRT2UE project represent an introduction to relevant topics in research integrity, These modules, which foster self-learning introduce research integrity, virtue ethics relevant for RI and virtue ethics under current research conditions. Moreover, the training has developed a series of videos and reading material introducing specific concepts and themes relevant to the field and practice of research integrity, such as ethical decision making in research and moral disengagement in research.

PATH2INTEGRITY

Target audience: Bachelor and master students, doctoral students and early career researchers The Path2Integrity project introduces educators to innovative teaching methods that will take topics in Research Integrity and Ethics. The project provides introductory videos and information on the teaching methodology used, discussing research integrity and its significance. The easy to use and innovative materials can be found in the Path2Integrity Training Programme section.
